Bintang muda berbakat besar,Mohamad Amirullah Jahari atau Amir Jahari (19 tahun) telah terpilih mewakili Malaysia dalam kategori muzik di 4th Marketplace of Creative Arts anjuran World Islamic Economic Forum di Bandung, Indonesia pada 14 hingga 15 April 2012.

Marketplace of Creative Arts menghimpunkan pelbagai bentuk seni yang merangkumi muzik, tarian, puisi, komedi, filem, seni visual dan macam-macam lagi. Ia juga merupakan platform untuk seniman muda diseluruh dunia untuk menonjolkan kreativiti dan bakat mereka.

Menurut pihak pengurusan Amir – J Play, pemilihan Amir yang masih muda oleh pihak penganjur adalah satu penghormatan besar buat pelajar Aswara ini.

Selain itu, Amir juga telah menandatangani perjanjian kerjasama bersama Kasi Gegar Entertainment milik penyanyi Aizat sebagai syarikat rakamannya baru-baru ini.

Penyanyi yang juga komposer lagu Tanpamu, Amir Jahari terpilih mewakili Malaysia ke 4th Marketplace of Creative Arts yang bakal berlangsung di Bandung, Indonesia. Dianjurkan buat kali keempat selepas diadakan di Kuala Lumpur, Singapura dan Kazakhstan, acara tersebut dianjurkan oleh Yayasan WIEF dan Bandung Creative City Forum (BCCF).

Bakal menghimpunkan lebih 40 artis dari seluruh Asia Tenggara termasuk artis dari Jepun dan India, acara tersebut bakal menjadi salah satu daripada acara seni bertaraf antarabangsa di Asia Tenggara untuk tahun ini.

Marketplace of Creative Arts bertujuan menghimpunkan artis daripada pelbagai cabang seni seperti muzik, tari, filem, puisi, seni visual dan sebagainya. Acara itu juga menjadi platform kepada bakat seni generasi muda dari seluruh dunia untuk mempromosikan bakat seni mereka selain mewujudkan rangkaian hubungan dengan artis dari seluruh dunia bagi memperkembangkan bakat seni yang ada.

Selain Amir, turut mewakili Malaysia ialah Suhaili Micheline, penari professional yang juga pensyarah di ASWARA dan Nadiah Hamzah, pembikin filem pendek Hujan Panas.

AMIR JAHARI kini mula memanjat tangga populariti selepas melalui kepayahan untuk bergelar seorang penyanyi.

DEMI mencapai impian untuk bergelar penyanyi dan membuka syarikat rakaman sendiri, Amir Jahari atau nama sebenarnya Mohamad Amirullah Jahari sanggup melalui kepayahan untuk berada di tahap yang dicapainya kini.

Bekas peserta program realiti Akademi Fantasia 9 (AF9) ini, mengakui sering berasa kecewa kerana semasa menyertai AF9, persembahannya kerap mendapat kritikan negatif.

"Walaupun kecewa, saya tetap tabahkan diri untuk teruskan perjuangan saya di dalam industri muzik. Ini kerana, saya telah memasang satu impian iaitu saya ingin membuka syarikat rakaman di negeri kelahiran saya iaitu di Sarawak dan mahu cuba bantu 'orang kampung' saya di dalam bidang ini.

"Memang kritikan negatif mengganggu saya namun saya cuba teruskan juga kerana yang penting ialah mencapai impian saya," jelasnya yang kini diurus oleh J Play dan menjadi artis di bawah naungan syarikat rakaman Kasi Gegar Entertainment (KGE).

Pengalaman hidup boleh mematangkan seseorang tidak kira peringkat umur. Walaupun baru berusia 19 tahun, kepayahan yang dilalui Amir telah memberi empunya diri lebih semangat untuk meneruskan apa yang diimpinya selama ini.

Tanpa berselindung, Amir jujur mengakui dirinya memang pernah bermalam di surau dan wakaf berdekatan Bukit Damansara, Petaling Jaya selama setahun kerana mempunyai masalah kewangan ketika masih belajar di Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara) tahun lepas.

Cerita anak keempat dari enam beradik ini, untuk menambah wang saku, dia akan melakukan aktiviti busking di beberapa tempat sekitar Kuala Lumpur termasuk di Pasar Seni.

"Saya tidak mahu menyusahkan ibu bapa saya. Jadi, saya akan memulakan aktiviti busking dari pukul 5 petang hingga 5 pagi dan saya akan sampai di rumah pukul 6 pagi. Saya akan tidur selama tiga jam sahaja sebelum bangun untuk ke kelas.

"Keluarga tidak banyak tahu tentang perkara ini dan pernah sekali tunang menyuruh saya berhenti kerana melihat kepayahan yang saya lalui ini. Namun, melihatkan kesungguhan saya mencapai impian saya itu, dia kembali menyokong dan percaya pada kebolehan diri ini," ujar Amir yang telah dua tahun mengikat tali pertunangan.

Amir Jahari kini muncul dengan single yang semakin menjadi siulan peminat berjudul Tanpamu dan tidak lama lagi single kedua akan dilancarkan akhir Januari ini yang diberi judul Gelisah. Kedua-duanya mendapat sentuhan daripadanya sendiri.

Selain itu, di dalam majlis yang sama yang bertempat di The Red Box, The Garden, Kuala Lumpur, Aizat Amdan juga telah menerbitkan sebuah album karaoke dari album keduanya Urusan Aizat Amdan di bawah labelnya sendiri iaitu KGE.

"Album karaoke ini mempunyai 10 buah lagu iaitu tujuh lagu dari album kedua, Urusan Aizat Amdan dan tiga lagi lagu dari album pertama iaitu Lagu Kita, Kau Aku dan Hanya Kau Yang Mampu. Saya membuat album karaoke ini kerana mendapat permintaan daripada orang ramai dan peminat," tutur Aizat.

Buat masa ini, album tersebut hanya boleh dibeli secara atas talian di www.aizatamdan.com dengan harga RM15 atau di lokasi Aizat membuat persembahan.

Sementara itu mengulas tentang kesudiannya menerima Amir sebagai artis yang bernaung di bawah syarikatnya, Aizat memberitahu, Amir mengingatkan dia tentang perjalanan awalnya sebagai penyanyi dahulu.

“Secara jujur, saya tak pernah ada perancangan untuk mengambil artis untuk duduk di bawah syarikat saya.

“Tapi selepas saya mengenali Amir, selain dia mengingatkan saya tentang pembabitan awal saya sebagai penyanyi dulu, saya juga nampak dia mempunyai misi untuk berjaya,” katanya yang juga bangga dengan bakat yang dimiliki Amir serta tidak harus dipandang remeh.

DIA tahu betapa sukarnya menjadi artis yang kurang pakej meskipun punya bakat untuk diperdagangkan. Sebelum terkenal seperti hari ini, Aizat Amdan pernah melalui saat sukar lalu mencabar dirinya untuk memperoleh tubuh badan yang menarik daripada 112 kepada 70 kilogram.

Semua itu dilakukan bagi memenuhi pandangan mata pencinta seni yang mahu melihat perkara ‘indah-indah’ saja. Namun Aizat percaya bakat adalah asas terbaik buat sesiapapun yang ingin menceburi bidang seni.

Atas sebab itulah Aizat menerima Amir Jahari sebagai artis pertama di bawah naungan label milik keluarga penyanyi Kasi Gegar Entertainment Sdn Bhd (KGE) tanpa prejudis.

“Saya diperkenalkan dengan Amir oleh Joe Lee juga pemilik J Play yang menguruskan kerjaya seni Amir pertengahan tahun lalu. Amir sebenarnya mengingatkan saya pada diri saya sendiri masa mula-mula nak menceburi bidang muzik.

“Pertama kali saya mendengar dia menyanyi saya sudah tertarik dengan kebolehan yang dia ada dan merasakan industri tidak boleh meminggirkan bakat seperti ini.

Dia bukan saja boleh menulis lagu dan lirik, tetapi bermain gitar dengan baik dan pada masa yang sama memiliki vokal yang unik.

Amir harus diberi peluang kerana saya yakin bakat-bakat sebegini jika diketengahkan memberi input positif kepada industri muzik sekali gus memeriahkannya,” katanya pada majlis Pelancaran Album Karaoke Urusan Aizat Amdan & Memperkenalkan Artis Amir Jahari termasuk menandatangani kontrak perjanjian kolaborasi antara KGE, Amir dan J Play. Ia berlangsung di Red Box Gardens, Kuala Lumpur.

Menambah isi penting dalam kenyataannya, Aizat memaklumkan bahawa terma kolaborasi yang diguna pakai dalam perjanjian mereka juga berbeza. Di mana syarat yang ditetapkan lebih mengutamakan kebajikan artis dari segi pembahagian hasil pendapatan.

Pun begitu, Aizat tidak pula berduet dengan Amir untuk albumnya “Saya bukan tidak mahu berduet dengan Amir tapi bagi saya bakat Amir dalam bidang penulis lagu, nyanyian dan skil bermain gitar lebih baik daripada saya sendiri. Saya rasa tanpa menggunakan nama saya, Amir masih mampu berdiri.

“Kalau bukan berduet dengan saya sekali pun, Amir tidak perlu berduet dengan penyanyi lain untuk mencipta nama kerana lebih baik dia dikenali dengan bakat serta kebolehannya sendiri,” katanya.

Beralih perbualan kepada Amir, bintang Akademi Fantasia 9 (AF9) itu berkata,
dia tidak pernah putus asa untuk mengejar cita-citanya sebagai pemuzik meskipun tidak berkesempatan menggunakan platform AF9 dulu dengan sebaik mungkin.

“Walaupun menjadi orang kedua yang tersingkir melalui program itu, pembabitan dalam AF9 adalah titik permulaan untuk maju.

“Mengenai tawaran KGE pula, pernah sebelum ini ada pihak ingin bekerjasama
namun saya memilih KGE sebab saya rasa lebih selesa dengan mereka. Saya juga
dilayani seperti keluarga mereka sendiri,” katanya.

Dikenali dengan lagu Tanpamu, Amir mempertaruh–kan pula sebuah lagu diberi judul Gelisah sebagai single kedua. Gelisah menyimpan kisah zaman kecil Amir bersama teman-temannya.

Tegas Amir yang ada hampir 40 koleksi lagu, dalam penciptaan lagu insan terdekat serta keadaan sekeliling sering menjadi inspirasi dalam penciptaan karya-karyanya.

Ketua Pemasaran, Jenama dan Promosi KGE, Nur Ili Zuhair, pula berkata sebagai label bebas atau ‘indie’, tidak banyak perancangan untuk Amir buat masa ini. Justeru itu, J Play sebagai pihak pengurusan perlu memainkan lebih peranan.

AMIR Jahari mahu peminat menerima muziknya dengan penuh terbuka.

TERSUNGKUR di pertengahan jalan sewaktu berjuang di Akademi Fantasia musim kesembilan (AF9)tahun lalu, tidak pernah mematahkan semangat anak muda berusia 19 tahun ini.

Biarpun tidak dikurniakan dengan pakej lengkap yang sering menjadi sandaran artis-artis baru yang hendak menapak dalam industri,Amir Jahari tetap optimis dengan langkah seninya.

Apatah lagi, dia kini bernaung di bawah syarikat Kasi Gegar Entertainment (KGE) milik penyanyi dan komposer muda terkenal, Aizat Amdan, kerjaya seninya dilihat mampu berkembang lebih baik.

"Saya bersyukur kerana diberi peluang menyertai AF9 dan menyifatkannya sebagai platform terbaik menonjolkan bakat saya kepada khalayak.

"Walaupun tidak sampai ke peringkat akhir tetapi setidak-tidaknya kehadiran saya disedari. Jujurnya juga, pada awalnya saya menyangkakan kerjaya seni saya akan tamat begitu sahaja.

"Mujurlah, saya bertemu dengan pengurus sekarang, Joe Lee, yang yakin dengan bakat saya. Perlahan-lahan, semangat saya dikembalikan dan inilah jalan yang akan saya teruskan," kata Amir bersemangat sewaktu ditemui di Red Box, The Gardens, Kuala Lumpur, Selasa lalu.

Mengikuti jejak langkah teman seperjuangannya yang lain seperti Yuna dan Aizat yang bukan hanya menyanyi tetapi juga mencipta lagu sendiri, single pertama Amir, Tanpamu sudah berjaya mendapat tempat di kalangan peminat muzik tempatan.

Apatah lagi, Tanpamu juga kini sudah mula mendaki carta lagu popular dan pernah bertahan di dalam Carta XFM (radio XFM) dalam tempoh lebih daripada 10 minggu sejak dipertandingkan pada September tahun lalu.

Berbekalkan vokalnya yang unik selain muzik segar yang dibawa, Amir berpotensi besar untuk bertahan lama dalam industri.

Namun, seperti mana kata Aizat, Amir tidak boleh hanya duduk diam tetapi dia sendiri perlu berusaha untuk membawa dirinya ke hadapan.

Setuju dengan apa yang diperkatakan oleh Aizat itu, Amir atau nama sebenarnya, Mohamad Amirullah Jahari tidak mahu terus berasa selesa.

Baginya, laluan seni baru sahaja hendak bermula dan apa yang dilakukan kini diibaratkan sebagai pembuka selera kepada pencinta muzik tempatan.

Malah, anak kelahiran Kuching, Sarawak ini juga sedar bahawa ramai yang lebih mengenali muziknya berbanding dirinya. Sehinggakan ada yang menyangka dia adalah Reza Salleh, hanya kerana gaya muzik mereka yang kedengaran serupa.

"Banyak lagi yang mahu saya lakukan menerusi muzik. Walaupun masih muda, saya tidak mahu berfikiran sempit dalam menghasilkan muzik.

"Saya mahu dikenali dengan muzik saya. Adalah menjadi satu kebanggaan dan kejayaan buat saya seandainya setiap satu karya saya diterima dengan baik oleh masyarakat.

"Saya percaya peminat muzik hari ini sudah bijak menilai untuk menikmati muzik yang berkualiti dan sedap di telinga mereka berbanding paras rupa semata-mata," kata penuntut di Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara) dalam bidang muzik ini lagi.

Sebelum menerima tawaran menyertai KGE, Amir tidak menafikan bahawa ada beberapa syarikat rakaman dan pengurusan menawarkan peluang kepadanya.

Tetapi ketika itu, hatinya belum terbuka sehinggalah KGE mendekati.

"Apa yang saya suka tentang KGE adalah mereka tidak menyekat kebebasan saya dalam berkarya. Saya boleh meneruskan apa yang telah dilakukan.

"Bersama KGE, saya yakin akan dapat belajar perkara baru daripada Aizat dan abangnya, Anas dalam soal penerbitan muzik serta lagu," ujar Amir yang juga mendapat perhatian Afdlin Shauki untuk penghasilan lagu tema filem Papadom 2.

Selepas lagu Tanpamu, kini Amir bersedia untuk melebarkan sayap seninya dengan single keduanya, Gelisah yang juga merupakan lagu ciptaannya sendiri.

KUALA LUMPUR: Penyanyi, Aizat Amdan memperluaskan kerjaya seninya apabila memilih bekas pelajar Akademi Fantasia musim ke-9, Amir Jahari untuk bernaung di bawah syarikat pengurusannya iaitu Kasi Gegar Entertainment Sdn Bhd (KGE).

Aizat berkata, pemilihan Amir dibuat adalah disebabkan kebolehan penyanyi berusia 20 tahun itu mencipta lagu dan menulis lirik sendiri selain bakat nyanyiannya yang menyerlah.

"Saya yakin dia mampu pergi jauh kerana bakat dan semangat ditunjukkan begitu menarik perhatian saya tambahan pula kebolehannya menulis dan mencipta lagu," ujarnya pada majlis memperkenalkan Amir dan pelancaran album Urusan Aizat Amdan VCD Karaoke di sini Selasa lalu.

Aizat berkata, penyanyi kelahiran Kuching, Sarawak itu juga turut mengingatkan dia kepada dirinya suatu ketika dahulu yang mahu mencari tapak dalam industri.

Ujarnya, beberapa persamaan antara mereka turut menarik minat penyanyi lagu Sungai Lui itu untuk mengambilnya sebagai artis di bawah label KGE.

"Masa mula-mula saya tengok Amir, dia terus mengingatkan saya kepada diri saya pada satu ketika dahulu yang ingin mencari tapak sebagai seorang penyanyi.

"Perkara itu juga membuatkan hati saya terdetik untuk mengambilnya sebagai artis naungan dan membantunya menjadi seorang penyanyi yang berkaliber," katanya.

Dalam pada itu, Aizat berkata, selain menerbitkan album untuk penyanyi tersebut, KGE juga mempunyai agenda lain untuknya.

Ujarnya, kebolehan Amir menulis lirik dan mencipta lagu akan digunakan sebaik mungkin dalam mencipta lagu untuk artis lain.

"Sehingga kini sudah beberapa artis bersetuju untuk menggunakan lagu ciptaannya dalam album terbaru mereka seperti Afdlin Shauki dan Adibah Noor," katanya.

Sementara itu, Amir ketika ditemui berkata, walaupun pernah mendapat tawaran daripada syarikat rakaman lain tetapi dia mengambil keputusan untuk bersama KGE kerana berasa selesa dengan pihak pengurusan syarikat itu.

Amir berkata, dia juga bersyukur dapat bernaung di bawah label tersebut kerana Aizat memberikannya peluang untuk berkarya tanpa sekatan selain persefahaman antara mereka.

"Kalau di tempat lain mungkin saya tidak dapat seperti mana saya dapat di sini tambahan pula saya artis baru.

"Aizat juga banyak memberi tunjuk ajar kepada saya dalam menjadi seorang penyanyi dan komposer yang baik," ujarnya.

Pada majlis sama, Aizat turut melancarkan album karaoke berjudul “Urusan Aizat Amdan VCD Karaoke” khas buat peminat yang mahu menyanyikan lagu-lagunya.

Album tersebut mengandungi 10 buah lagu seperti Susun Silang Kata, Sungai Lui dan beberapa tajuk daripada album terdahulu seperti Hanya Kau Yang Mampu, Kau Aku danLagu Kita.

"Album VCD Karaoke ini dilancarkan berdasarkan kepada permintaan peminat yang sering bertanya kepada saya mengenainya. Saya berharap peminat akan suka seleksi lagu dalam VCD ini selain dapat menyanyi di rumah," ujarnya.

Tambahnya setakat ini album tersebut boleh didapati secara dalam talian diwww.aizatamdan.com atau mana-mana lokasi penyanyi itu membuat persembahan. Ia dijual dengan harga RM15.

Jika sebelum ini, OHBULAN! pernah menulis mengenai Yuna Room Records yang mengambil Diandra Arjunaidisebagai artis tempatan pertama di bawah label mereka, kini kita boleh lihat satu lagi label tempatan milik keluarga Aizat Amdan, Kasi Gegar Entertainment (KGE) menerima Amir Jahari yang juga artis pertama dibawah naungan mereka selepas Aizat sendiri.

Amir Jahari, 20, mula popular melalui Akademi Fantasia Musim Ke-9. Walaupun tersingkir awal apabila dia digantikan oleh Hazama pada minggu ke-4, dia kini terus memperjuangkan bakat seninya dbawah bimbingan Joe Lee. Selepas meletup dengan single berjudul ‘Tanpamu’, single terbaru Amir Jahari berjudul ‘Gelisah’ juga sudah dilancarkan secara rasminya.

Anak muda yang berasal dari Kuching ini ialah pelajar Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) dan kini sedang mengambil diploma dalam bidang muzik. Amir juga sebelum ini selalu melakukan aktiviti ‘busking’ sebelum dia menyertai AF9.

Antara konsert yang pernah dijayakan sekali oleh Amir termasuklah Aizat Amdan Borneo Tour, Konsert Muzik Fiesta Indonesia 2011, dan juga Digi Jelajah Desa & Kampus 2011. Paling menarik, Amir adalah satu-satunya artis tempatan yang menjadi duta kepada jenama telefon bimbit terkenal, Blackberry.

Syarikat label milik keluarga penyanyi Aizat Amdan, Kasi Gegar Entertainment Sdn Bhd (KGE) terus melebarkan sayapnya dengan mengambil bekas peserta program realiti Akademi Fantasia musim ke-9, Amir Jahari sebagai artis pertama dibawah naungan mereka.

Dengan kolaborasi tersebut, Amir akan bergerak bersama KGE dalam penerbitan muzik dan lagu sekaligus memperkembangkan lagi kerjayanya di dalam industri muzik. Selain itu, KGE juga bertindak dalam menerbitkan dan memasarkan lagu-lagu ciptaan Amir serta bekerjasama dengan syarikat pengurusan Amir, J Play dalam urusan promosi.

“Kali pertama saya tengok dia membuat persembahan, ia mengingatkan pada diri saya sendiri ketika di awal kemunculan saya dulu. Saya tertarik dengan bakat Amir yang saya rasa tidak patut dipandang enteng dalam industri ini.

“Secara peribadi, saya terkejut dan bangga bila jumpa bakat seperti Amir. Syukur, Alhamdulillah kami dapat berkolaborasi dengan dia,” ujar Aizat ketika ditemui pada majlis menandatangani kontrak perjanjian kolaborasi antara KGE, Amir dan J Play, petang semalam.

“Sebelum ini KGE ada perancangan untuk mengambil artis di bawah naungannya, tapi waktu itu kami tak ada pengalaman lagi. Bila jumpa Amir tahun lepas dan bawa dia bersama ke Konsert Borneo Tour, kami yakin untuk ambil dia kerana kami tengok dia seorang yang profesional. Malah, orang pun dah mula sedar bakat dia yang bagus dan saya rasa Amir mempunyai peluang cerah dalam industri ini.”

Ketika ditemui, Aizat turut memberitahu bahawa terma kolaborasi ini juga agak berbeza daripada kontrak biasa di mana syarat-syaratnya lebih prihatin terhadap kepentingan artis dari segi pembahagian hasil pendapatan.

Bagi yang masih tidak mengenali Amir, penyanyi kelahiran Kuching, Sarawak ini cukup popular dengan single pertamanya berjudul, ‘Tanpamu’. Selain menyanyi, Amir atau nama penuhnya Mohamad Amirullah bin Jahari ini juga berbakat dalam bermain alat muzik serta mencipta lirik.

Menyentuh mengenai tawaran yang diterimanya, Amir ketika ditemui memberitahu, “Sebelum ini memang ada syarikat lain yang ingin bekerjasama, namun saya memilih KGE sebab saya rasa lebih selesa dengan mereka. Mereka layan saya seperti keluarga sendiri dan saya rasa itu yang terbaik untuk saya,” ujarnya yang bakal muncul dengan single kedua berjudul, ‘Gelisah’ tidak lama lagi.

HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio smart mob

J Play thanks HTC Malaysia for believing in us to execute the smart mob at Pavilion yesterday. The Sensation XE with Beats Audio mob was awesome - and definitely beats out our iconic KLCC mob, which was our first three years ago, and remains one of the landmark mobs in Malaysia.

We would also like to thank Floor Fever and the Funky Fresh Family as well as Phuture Phlow Films, our affiliates in ensuring the success of the mob. Not forgetting DJ Fuzz - a friend of the HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio for the awesome mix used for the session. It was amazing.

Last October, the Malaysian Twitter community dubbed Twitterjaya, broke the world record for the largest Twitter gathering.

A then unknown, Amir Jahari, a Twitterer took to stage, as a Twitterer breaking into the music business with his first single. In the last few months since then, Tanpamu, his debut single has so far hit No. 1 on XFM Radio (and is one of the longest running numbers over the past year being in the charts for some four months now), broke into Suria FM at No. 20 of their Top 30 charts in the last week of 2011 and remains on high rotation moving up.

Hitting as high as No. 30 on Era FM, with a recent re-entry into the charts, and being a daily favorite for both Era and Hot FM in their daily charts and still spreading - Tanpamu is testimony to how Amir has taken the music industry in a non-traditional method of marketing ONLY on social media. Especially Twitter.

The support for the Twitterjaya community has been overwhelming and J Play is proud to announce today, after two self-produced parody videos (the first in Cinta Muka Bulu amassing almost 400,000 hits in less than three months and the second in Lembu Nak Jaga with almost 500,000 in just a week so far!), Twitterjaya - the Malaysian Twitter community will be behind Amir's debut single music video.

It's out way of thanking Twitterjaya for their support, and helping the many talents there to shine, and putting forward that Amir continues to celebrate being part of the new school of the music industry.

Production details will be released soon, but the video is slated for a February unveiling.

We are proud to say that Amir Jahari, after having signed on to Kasi Gegar Entertainment Sdn Bhd for his debut single, Tanpamu in a mutual agreement in a test of his abilities - will officially be signed to the company that is responsible for giving the Malaysian music industry Aizat Amdan.

Today, J Play, which has groomed Amir, and is managing his career has agreed in principle to sign on to Kasi Gegar for a two year term.

We are sure that this will be mutually beneficial to both parties, and we pray for continued support for Amir's musical career.

Announcement of the ties will be announced officially in a press conference by Kasi Gegar on 17th January 2011.

Meanwhile, fans of Amir, can look forward to his second Gelisah hitting the airwaves next month.

It's a awesome one for us for all the right reasons, and a bonus because of TWO reasons. Number is - Amir Jahari is number one!

While Tanpamu has consistently been in the top three on XFM Radio for the past three months ever since the song was released, this is the first week it's gone number one! And on the Christmas weekend at that. Nice!

And today, Kosmo! ran an article on Amir. We definitely have reason to celebrate. Here's hoping 2012 will be bigger and better with the release of Amir's second single, Gelisah.

Vokal tersendiri Amir

PENGALAMAN menjadi pemuzik jalanan di Kuching, Sarawak adalah antara momen yang membentuk jati diri Amir Jahari pada hari ini.

BERAWAL daripada deringan jam loceng yang saban hari mengejutkannya daripada tidur yang panjang, penyanyi baru dengan nama Amir Jahari mendapat buah fikir untuk menulis sebuah lagu bertajuk Tanpamu.

Awalnya lagu yang kini sering diputar di corong radio diberikan tajuk Jam Putih namun setelah ditukar menjadi Tanpamu, masih berkisar tentang jam putih yang membantunya bangun setiap hari.

Amir Jahari, namanya perlahan-lahan dikenali umum. Terlebih awal, vokalnya yang tersendiri sudah mesra di telinga umum. Malah ada yang tertanya-tanya siapa pemilik suara yang mendendangkan Tanpamu. Pemilik nama berdaftar Mohamad Amirullah Jahari punya perancangan sendiri.

"Memang itu perancangan pihak pengurusan saya iaitu J Play. Mainkan lagu single Tanpamu dan biarkan ia matang di radio dan naik sendiri. Single pertama saya terhasil melalui kolaborasi kreatif bersama Anas Amdan. Di samping itu saya turut bermain di persembahan akustik untuk memperkenalkan wajah saya," ujarnya yang merupakan salah seorang peserta Akademi Fantasia musim kesembilan.

Menganggap muncul solo selepas keluar daripada dunia AF dahulu merupakan satu penjenamaan semula, Amir memulakan langkah baru. Mengalas gitar dan menyanyi dari hati, usaha Amir satu persatu sudah dikesan umum.

Anak kelahiran Kuching, Sarawak ini sebenarnya sudah bermain gitar sejak berumur 13 tahun. Ketika di tingkatan tiga, dia memasuki kelas muzik dan mendalami gitar klasikal.

"Habis SPM, saya sempat juga menjadi pemuzik jalanan dan bermain gitar di depan Waterfront. Itu antara pengalaman yang saya cari," ujarnya yang merupakan pelajar Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara).

Memanjatkan lagi perjalanan karier seninya yang baru bermula, Amir yang lahir pada 31 Mei 1992 ini turut bekerjasama bersama penyanyi Altimet untuk sebuah lagu bertajuk Sabarlah. Selain itu, dia turut akan berkolaborasi bersama Adibah Noor untuk sebuah lagu ciptaan Amir sendiri.

Untung sabut timbul, baru setahun jagung dalam arena hiburan, Amir telah menjadi duta BlackBerry dan melakukan klip video Tanpamu dengan menggunakan BlackBerry Playbook.

Menyentuh soal proses kreatif yang dijalaninya, Amir mengaku banyak menonton filem-filem Jepun untuk mendapat idea. Menggemari penceritaan filem Jepun, Amir mendakwa dia kini memiliki lebih 20 lagu dalam simpanannya.

Perlahan-lahan tapi pasti dengan cara sebegini, Amir melihat ada momentum dalam perjalanannya.

"Imej saya biasa-biasa sahaja dan saya juga tidak menjual wajah. Apa yang penting orang tahu vokal dan hasil kerja saya," ujar Amir yakin. - SOFIATUL SHIMA WAN CHIK

J Play is proud to be part of the event, helping in coordinating the launch party hosted by Hitz FM, apart from other activities planned in our cooperation with HTC.

SOME 1,000 music fans from Kedah and Perlis had a memorable night rocking out to Aizat and Sixth Sense at Digi's Konsert Jelajah Desa series held recently at the MBAS Hall here.

Newcomer Amir Jahari and his three-piece acoustic band opened the show at about 9.30pm with a cover version of Matta Band's Ketahuan.

Accompanied by skillful double-bass and cajon (a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru) playing by his band line-ups, Amir charmed the audience with his manly vocals and adept guitar-playing when performing the song, which he gave a catchy, jazz twist.

The Sarawak-born singer, who was among Akademi Fantasia Season 9's participants, continued warming up the crowd with his second single Gelisah, before belting out his debut hit single Tanpamu.

Deafening screams from the fans filled the hall when talented crooner, Aizat Amdan, joined Amir to sing Tanpamu before he took over the stage with his band.

Aizat swept fans off their feet with an electrifying performance of his hits, including Kau Aku, Susun Silang Kata, Lagu Kita, Hanya Kau Yang Mampu and Sungai Lui.

Aizat was himself equally awed by the adoring crowd who swayed and sang together with him.

The packed hall burst into wild cheers when Sixth Sense took over the stage. The five-piece band did not disappoint their diehard fans, putting on an energetic show which comprised the hits Cinta Matiku, Tanpa, Yang Sempurnakanku, Menyesal and Khatimah Cinta.

Most of the time, the voice of the band's vocalist, Adi, was drowned by the ecstatic fans who were singing to every line of the songs throughout their 40-minute-set.

During the concert, the audience was also entertained by Zizan (Raja Lawak), ERA fm radio announcer Adifashla Juraimi and actor Shaheizy Sam.

Lucky fans received various freebies from Digi and had the chance to meet the celebrities in a meet-the-fan session after the concert.

Aizat said he was overwhelmed by the crowd's response.

"I was surprised to see the big turnout because I was informed there had not been any major mainstream concerts in Alor Star for the past several years," he said.

"I was overwhelmed to see their energy and sporting spirit, and they have made me consider Alor Star for my tour next year."

Organised by Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd in collaboration with ERA fm radio and Giant Ants Talent Hub, the Konsert Jelajah Desa series next tours Tanjung Karang, Selangor, on Saturday.

Gelisah - the second single

After the success the debut single of our talent in Amir Jahari, in Tanpamu, yesterday night began the recording process for his follow up, also in the self-penned Gelisah.

Anas Amdan, who worked on Tanpamu, and is also co-writer and producer for younger brother Aizat Amdan, is also the producer behind Gelisah. The first stage of the recording was done at Kamar Seni, the much preferred studio of top musicians like Aizat, Hujan, Yuna and many more.

Gelisah, will also be under Kasi Gegar as our production partner and label as after many discussions and mulling over several offers received, we believe Kasi Gegar would best serve our purpose to stay true to the music.

Recording will continue in December after the DiGi Jelajah Desa tour concludes for 2011.

As the Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 pageantry reached its climax, its top 12 finalists were given their biggest challenge - handling a question and answer session with the media.

Returning to the "interrogation room" at the WhiteSpace in Solaris SOHO, Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur were Datuk Wong Sai Wan, the executive editor of The Star, Jahabar Sadiq, the chief executive officer of The Malaysian Insider and yours truly, dubbed the "cili padi" senior writer of The Daily Chilli.

Just for the record, the power trio played an instrumental role in shaping up last year's cream of the crop - emotionally and intellectually.

Advance notice was given to the girls in the BeautyCamp - as per their reality show by Andrea Fonseka, the national director of the well-established pageant.

But still, things got a lot tougher for them this time around with celebrity columnist Joe Lee - who is known for his no-holds-barred interviews in The Malay Mail - on board.

"Joe and I made the girls cry," admitted Wong.

The Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 hopefuls were grilled on various political, social, economic and human interest issues.

"Tell us why you think you deserve to be the next Miss Universe Malaysia," Jahabar questioned his nervous interviewees. "Do you champion any good cause in life? Why do you think you deserve the media's attention?"

Among a handful that was a cut above the rest was Stephanie Vincent. The 23-year-old Malaccan beauty moved the panel media with her heart-warming story on how she and her family have been helping the homeless in Malacca since she was 14.

Sharing his concern for the future Miss Universe Malaysia, Wong added, "It's amazing that Andrea has found fresh new faces compared to last year. She's close to finding brains with beauty. But she's not there yet.

"The organisers should be a bit careful. In trying to find a new face for Miss Universe Malaysia, they're not finding girls who are mature enough to take part in international pageants."

Taking the media's constructive comments in her stride, Fonseka said, "It's great for the 'beauty-queenlets' to experience what it's like to be interviewed by professionals who are respected in their field. Some of them stumbled, due to immaturity and bad 'media habits'. But these girls have what it takes to be the amazing spokesperson for our nation provided they learn from the right people!"

Relating her personal experience, the former beauty queen added, "Being media savvy is not something you're born with. It's a learned skill, like many other elements of a pageantry."

The finals of the Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 will be aired live over Astro Hitz.TV (channel 705) on Nov 10 at 9pm.

Muzik tradisional dalam irama moden

ORKESTRA Tradisional Malaysia bersedia memulakan karya mereka pada 26 hingga 30 Oktober ini.

DARI petikan gambus hingga gesekan biola, elemen-elemen itu sebenarnya boleh disatukan membentuk kesepaduan dalam seni. Begitu cetusan inspirasi yang dicipta oleh konduktor muzik Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia (OTM) Istana Budaya, Mohd. Yazid Zakaria yang bakal mempersembahkan karya istimewanya pada malam Malaysian Diversity di dewan berprestij, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas pada hari Jumaat ini, 28 Oktober pukul 8.30 malam.

“Sebanyak 15 buah lagu dari muzik-muzik Melayu asli, ghazal, sita dan sape sehinggalah pop, moden dan kontemporari bakal dipersembahkan pada malam itu,” katanya yang ditemui ketika sidang akhbar di bilik Siantan, Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur baru-baru ini.

Ketika sidang akhbar itu juga, OTM berkesempatan menyajikan sedikit persembahan khas yang akan dipentaskan antaranya lagu Overture Star yang muziknya digubah oleh Lilian Loo Shu Chin, Pak Ngah Balik gubahan Shamsul Zain dan dinyanyikan oleh Norihan Saif, Corazon Espinado, medley Santubong dan Sayang Kinabalu serta Joget Irish.

Selain itu, juara Malaysian Idol musim pertama, Jaclyn Victor akan turut sama memeriahkan persembahan dengan menyanyikan beberapa buah lagu seperti Gemilang, Somewhere, Joget Kenangan Manis dan Rolling In The Deep.

Istimewanya, persembahan daripada kumpulan Orang Asli, Bahbola dan Iqwal Hafiz akan turut serta menjayakan malam sambutan sempena Festival Seni KLCC 2011 itu.

Seramai 50 orang pemuzik daripada OTM akan bersama-sama menjayakan persembahan Malaysian Diversity yang hanya menggunakan alat muzik tradisional.

“Tapi selain itu, kita juga ada menggunakan instrumen moden seperti keyboard, gitar dan chelo untuk memperoleh notasi rendah yang tidak boleh dihasilkan oleh alatan muzik tradisional,” ujarnya yang pertama kali berkolaborasi dengan pihak Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

Festival Seni KLCC sebelum ini pernah dijayakan pada tahun 2010 dan mendapat sambutan luar biasa daripada pengunjung dari dalam dan luar negara.

Maka, sehubungan itu festival seni dan budaya selama seminggu itu kembali lagi tahun ini bermula pada 26 hingga 30 Oktober ini dan pelbagai aktiviti disediakan setiap hari dari siang hingga malam.

Idea di sebalik festival ini diinspirasikan dari kewujudan Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur (KLCC) sebagai pusat seni. Dewan Filharmonik Petronas selaku pentas berprestij untuk pemuzik dan artis tersohor mempersembahkan bakat.

KOMBINASI muzik Barat dan Timur bersatu.

Manakala Galeri Petronas menghimpunkan variasi lukisan dan karya pelukis ternama dunia dan Petrosains pula bertindak selaku pusat sains dan teknologi yang kreatif dan ekspresif.

Empat malam

Festival itu akan dimulakan dengan gabungan Ensembel Seni Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) dan Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara) Dance Company pada hari Rabu ini, 26 Oktober menerusi persembahan berjudul Living Inspirations.

Pada malam ketiga (Sabtu 29 Oktober, pukul 8.30 malam), sebuah muzikal instrumental yang diinspirasikan daripada kehidupan masyarakat Malaysia akan dipersembahkan di bawah pimpinan pemain trombon MPO, Marques Young.

Persembahan berjudul MPO’s Native Foray itu akan menyampaikan muzik-muzik yang diinspirasikan daripada lagu-lagu Allahyarham Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Datuk Sheila Majid, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, James Brown dan Ibrahim Ferrer daripada kaca mata pemuzik Barat.

Festival ini bakal diakhiri dengan persembahan muzikal Pesona Jauhar bertemakan Johor Heads North oleh Badan Kesenian Warisan Johor bermula pukul 8.30 malam.

Tarian berentak zapin dan muzik ghazal bakal bergema di pentas Dewan Filharmonik Petronas yang terbahagi kepada empat segmen iaitu Tika Dinihari, Terbitnya Suria, Cahaya Mega dan Berlabuhnya Malam Permata Tetap Bersinar.

Muzik Fiesta Indonesia Hangat Dengan Dewi Persik

Acara tahunan, Muzik Fiesta Indonesia berlangsung lagi malam tadi di Stadium Negara dengan barisan pemuzik yang sama handalnya dengan tahun-tahun lalu. Celcom dan Clockwork Events selaku penganjur mempertaruhkan Kristal, Jinbara, Sheila on 7, Dewi Persik, Monata dan God Bless. Tidak mahu kejadian 2010 berulang lagi, acara tahun ini mengadakan pemeriksaan sekuriti yang cukup ketat.

Mengapa hanya dua band tempatan? Mungkin kerana penonton sasaran utama konsert ini ialah tenaga kerja Indonesia (TKI) yang ada di sini. Tetapi dua band tempatan, Kristal dan Jinbara ternyata mempunyai ramai peminat di kalangan TKI. Kedua-dua band memanaskan pentas dengan lagu-lagu popular mereka yang dinyanyikan bersama para penonton yang ada sesetengahnya sudah berada di kawasan Stadium Merdeka seawal jam 12 tengah hari.

Slot pemuzik Indonesia dibuka dengan Sheila On 7 (SO7) yang mempersembahkan gabungan lagu-lagu lama dan terkini mereka dengan sempurna. Walaupun ada yang kecewa dengan ketiadaan ‘Sephia’ dalam senarai lagu mereka, tetapi kehadiran ‘Dan’ ‘Sebuah Kisah Klasik’ ‘Anugrah Terindah,’ ‘Itu Aku,’ dan ‘Hari Bersamanya’ cukup untuk mengubat rindu para peminat yang hadir. Set SO7 sempat terhenti dua kali sewaktu ‘Seberapa Pantas’ akibat sedikit kekecohan di kalangan penonton. Duta, selaku vokalis menggunakan kata-kata semangat dan mengajak para penonton menyanyi bersama untuk meleraikan pergaduhan. Kugiran asal Yogyakarta ini juga sempat menjemput penyanyi tempatan, Amir Jahari untuk menyanyikan lagu ‘Kita’ bersama.

Selepas Sheila On 7, giliran pelakon dan penyanyi dangdut kontroversi, Dewi Persik menghiburkan penonton. Dengan kombinasi pakaian dan tariannya di atas pentas, tidak hairanlah mengapa beliau antara artis terseksi Indonesia sekarang. Memulakan set dengan ‘Stop! Kau Mencuri Hatiku’, Dewi Persik membuat persembahan sekitar satu jam, mendendangkan lagu-lagu popular Indonesia seperti ‘Saat Terakhir’ ST 12, ‘Makhluk Tuhan Paling Seksi’ Mulan Jameela, dan ‘Alamat Palsu’ Ayu Ting Ting.

Konsert malam itu menjadi lebih hangat bila Monata turut naik pentas dan membuat persembahan bersama Dewi Persik. Buat mereka yang kurang tahu, Monata adalah sebuah kumpulan dangdut koplo yang sangat popular di Indonesia. Mereka banyak membuat persembahan di kampung-kampung dan pekan-pekan kecil. Grup ini bukan sahaja membuat persembahan bersama penyanyi-penyanyi wanitanya sendiri, seperti Ratna Antika dan Alfi Damayanti, tapi lengkap didatangkan dengan seorang ‘pengacara majlis’. Kemahiran berkomunikasi mereka bersama goyang hangat Dewi Persik memang membuat para penonton berjoget dan menyanyi bersama.

Fiesta Indonesia diakhiri dengan kumpulan rock lagenda, God Bless. Band yang dianggotai oleh Achmad Albar, Ian Antono, Donny Fatah, Abadi Soesman, dan Yaya Muktio ini menbuktikan umur bukanlah penghalang untuk memberikan persembahan yang jauh lebih baik daripada semua pemuzik muda yang tampil pada hari itu.

Tidak hairanlah kenapa mereka dinobatkan sebagai salah satu daripada 25 ‘The Immortals’, oleh majalah Rolling Stone Indonesia. Penghargaan berikut diberikan kepada 25 artis terbesar Indonesia sepanjang masa.

God Bless mempersembahkan 9 buah lagu, antaranya ‘Menjilat Matahari,’ ‘Rumah Kita,’ ‘Bis Kota,’ ‘Semut Hitam’ dan ‘Panggung Sandiwara’ yang dinyanyikan bersama dengan para penonton dengan penuh semangat. Kami juga terlihat ‘otai rock’ Ramli Sarip di bawah pentas turut menikmati persembahan mereka.

Tahniah buat para penganjur yang telah berjaya menganjurkan Muzik Fiesta tahun ini dengan selamat. Gabungan para pemuzik tahun ini juga cukup mantap dengan kehadiran rock dan dangdut dan pop yang cukup seimbang. Siapa agaknya yang akan mereka jemput tahun depan ya?

Moonshine, Yasmin Hani, #OctTwtFest and Sheila On 7

It's been a hectic week for us, with Amir Jahari having a full week.

On Thursday, he played a showcase of new talent after being invited by Reza Salleh to participate in Moonshine at Laundry Bar at the Curve. Friday, he serenaded Yasmin Hani at her wedding and on Saturday he played for the record-breaking #OctTwtFest event where Twitterjaya, or Malaysian Twitterers gathered.

Of course #OctTwtFest was a little special as Amir has much to thank the overwhelming support he has from Twitter that launched his career.

But come Sunday, it was perhaps the most amazing experience as Amir was invited by pioneering group Sheila On 7 to collaborate onstage at the Konsert Muzik Fiesta Indonesia at Stadium Merdeka. Amir was the only Malaysian act on the mainstage which only had more experienced musicians in Jinbara and Kristal play the opening act.

Many thanks to organizers Clockwork Events for inviting Amir, and a million thanks more to Sheila On 7 for asking our talent to join in for the show. It was indeed an amazing experience to have Amir onstage perform with the groundbreaking band and even more memorable to get words of support from Duta, Adam, Eross and Brian.

Duta even tweeted his best wishes to Amir after the show and we hope it will open the doors for something more concrete working relations in the future.

Masih segar daripada kejayaan KLCC Seni Festival yang pertama pada tahun lepas, Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) akan meneruskan kelangsungan pesta keraian ini dengan mempersembahkan muzik ekstravaganza perayaan seni dan budaya selama satu minggu menerusi KLCC Seni Festival 2011 bulan ini.

Maka itu, festival ini bakal mempromosi dan meraikan seni Malaysia di menara berkembar yang ikonik.

Ensembel Seni MPO & ASWARA Dance Company, Rabu, 26 Oktober

Rakyat Malaysia akan sekali lagi menyaksikan sejarah melalui keraian cabang seni yang pelbagai; tarian, muzik dan persembahan seni yang lain. Dengan tema ‘Malaysia’ yang sarat, festival ini akan dimulakan dengan gabungan Ensembel Seni MPO dan ASWARA Dance Company pada hari Rabu, 26 Oktober 11 pada pukul 8.30 malam. Bertemakan ‘Living Traditions’, mereka bakal mempersembahkan enam karya yang menggabungkan muzik dan tarian. Pentas DFP bakal menyaksikan persembahan hebat Wirama, Tapak 4 dan Allarippu oleh koreografer-koreografer tempatan yang terkenal seperti Joseph Gonzales, Shafirul Azmi dan Umesh Shetty. Persembahan ini bakal disusuli dengan tiga lagu persembahan ensembel MPO; Lex, Trio Tradisi and Vespertine Formations yang disulami dengan tarian-tarian segar. Festival ini seterusnya meraikan ‘Malaysian Diversity’ pada hari Jumaat, 28 Oktober 11 pada pukul 8.30 malam. Persembahan ini bakal menampilkan Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia di bawah pimpinan Mohd Yazid Zakaria. Ensembel ini akan mempersembahkan kekayaan seni budaya kita melalui muzik dan lagu, menampilkan penyanyi undangan Jaclyn Victor, Iqwal Hafiz dan kumpulan Orang Asli, Bahbola. Antara lagu yang bakal dipersembahkan ialah Gemilang, Joget Kenangan Manis, Somewhere, Corazon Espinado, medley P Ramlee, Pak Ngah Balik, Santubong, Sayang Kinabalu, Dondang Sayang, Empat Dara dan Zapin Budi. Persembahan ini bakal menyaksikan elemen perpaduan rakyat yang menjunjung tinggi konsep 1Malaysia. Beginning with our first ever flashmob in KLCC, we boast the collective of the best street dancers in the country under the umbrella body of the Funky Fresh Family.

The family, through our main partners in Floor Fever crew needs no introduction. Placed in 8TV's Showdown 2010, the group has been known for its extensive work with ground events as well as backing the biggest names in the local music industry.

Then there's Wakaka Crew, the champions of Showdown 2010 who are the co-team leaders for some of our projects as well.

8TV's Showdown undoubtedly has offered the opportunity for street dancers to earn a name for themselves in the hearts of Malaysians. While we have always strived to bring forth the artistry of the underrated street performers of Malaysia, the programme has paved the way for acts to be known.

For Showdown 2011, we're proud to say that the top four finalists, including champions Elecoldxhot, the four crews that complete the Funky Fresh Family along with RokuSteps, Bounce Stepperz and HMC Phlow.

We announced we had branched into management and music production and that we had signed a musical talent, and now it's time to unveil J Play's foray into music.

Not much of an unveiling as you would have probably heard the song as it's playing on radio and entering charts as well.

J Play's talent - is Amir Jahari.

Some know him from being one of the finalists for the Mentor programme over TV3 when he was shortlisted as Noh from Hujan's protege. Some know him from Akademi Fantasia 9.

This 19 year-old busker and singer/songwriter however is taking giants steps in his career after intensive grooming for his musicianship and showmanship.

The first single, Tanpamu, released with Kasi Gegar is produced by none other than Anas and Aizat Amdan.

He is lucky to have had more mentoring and words of advice from seniors in the business and with the guidance of J Play, we too are happy that Amir has been recognized as one of the most outstanding newcomers in the business.

Congratulations to our owner and creative director Joe Lee, who was appointed a member of the faculty of Akademi Fantasia 9 in the role of media and communications teacher.

A senior entertainment journalist as well, Joe has been involved in the audition process as well as serving as consultant for the show resulting in the 'glass house' enclosure used as the Akademi this year.

This is an example of J Play's radical ideas to change entertainment-related ideas.

One of our most daring projects as mentioned before was the IrreTwistible flashmob where 130 singers, 30 percussionists and stompers, Pesawat band, as well as many other last minute additions that made the numbers who joined us for the unique musical experience swell to about 200.

It's a first for sure, as we combined vocals, beats from three different set of percussions in the drum line and stompers and a live band to make it a street party flashmob.

While our KLCC event was a relatively low-key event, the Twisties flashmob hit the news on Astro Awani.

Combining heads of project groups in Puan Siti Hajar Ismail, the percussionists from a combo of KLDC, KL Stompers led by Batteryheadz percussion outfit and other groups as well as Pesawat definitely made the event a newsworthy one.

Irretwistible Musical On The Street

Out of nowhere on a bustling street of Bukit Bintang, a group of young performers started shouting and banging on their drums, while hundreds of curious shoppers gathered around to see what was going on, dazed and confused drivers slowed down their cars and were caught in between the cross-fire. Soon, there were whispers going on that the group was seemingly “protesting” about something or it was an extension of Thailand’s red shirt protesters. But, there’s more to that.
If you happened to be one of the many curious shoppers or drivers, chances are you are witnessing after a rather spontaneous and rare musical performance involving over hundreds of students from SMK Aminuddin Baki and exchange students from Twintech College. Also gracing the event was award-winning Indie rock band, Pesawat. Simply known as the “Irretwistible” musical event, members of the public were caught off guard, when seemingly ordinary individual suddenly sprang into a musical action with drums, sticks and whistling tunes, turning the streets into a mini musical ala GLEE style.
“We hope to encourage more and more of these random street performing events. We want to provide a platform for these performers to let their hair down once a while, and just caught the public off guard,” said J Squared PR Consultant, Joe Lee. Getting into trouble with the authorities is not what Joe expected. “Our initial goal is to encourage talent. We should encourage especially talented young performers to perform for the people. We’re not here to obstruct the traffic or disturbing the public’s peace, but we’re here to take stress away from the people. It’s a stress-free event, so let’s party!” continued Joe, who ran around trying to keep his team together.
Performers were disguised as ordinary passers-by and scattered randomly at the four corner roads surrounding the main junction of the Lot 10 and Sungei Wang shopping complexes. The musical started with a group of workers whistling to the tune of “Irretwistible” at a bus stop in front of Lot 10 shopping complex. This was soon echoed by more people, by singing, clapping and drumming to the background of percussion music.
Organised by Twisties, this rare musical performance was staged to celebrate youth expression, creativity and spontaneity in the spirit of fun. Expressions of shock and amusement were written on the many faces of passers-by and onlookers that they were drawn into a spontaneous musical street performance that started and ended within a blink of an eye.

TRAFFIC in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle briefly came to a halt on Saturday evening as more than one hundred mysterious performers and Indie rock band Pesawat took to the streets for a spontaneous and unique musical performance called “Irretwistible”.

Shoppers and the public were caught off guard when seemingly ordinary people suddenly sprang into musical action with an assortment of instruments like drums, bins, bin lids, traffic cones and sticks, and sang along to the Twisties “Irretwistible” jingle.

Organised by Twisties, the event was staged to celebrate youth expression, creativity and spontaneity in the spirit of fun.

The performers, comprising whistlers, singers and percussionists, had a great time as they showcased their act — flash mob-style — at the crossroad junction of Lot 10 and Sungei Wang shopping complexes, before whisking off with packets of Twisties.

Twisties brand manager Lee Lim Meng said: “Twisties is all about being fun. We hope this spontaneous musical performance will play a role in showcasing the talent found in our youths, encouraging creative expressions and, more importantly, sharing fun with others while doing so.

“The idea behind the street musical originated from the latest Twisties TV commercial - “Let’s Rock the Twisties City” - which essentially encapsulates how young individuals from every corner of the city come together in a musical celebration to have a blast while trying to grab a pack of Twisties.

“We are always on the lookout for talents, and the performance is one way to cultivate creativity among youths.”

Mohd Mustaffa Zahrein led the percussion group as they whistled the “Irretwistible” tune at a bus stop in Jalan Sultan Ismail, which was soon echoed by more people singing and clapping to the percussion music and supported by rock tunes.

The four-minute event culminated in a musical crescendo accompanied by spontaneous dance movements, and included a surprise performance by Pesawat.

Zahrein, who described it as a new and fun experience, said it was the first time he worked with such a huge group of people playing percussions, comprising members from the Kuala Lumpur Drumline Corps, No Noise Percussions and Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) music students.

“It was easy to coordinate with the percussion group because everyone was an experienced percussionist,” he said.

“The difficult part was having to synchronise with the singers and Pesawat, and staying together on the same beat. But we managed to do it despite only four days of practice.”

Joe Lee, whose company J-Squared Media helped coordinate the entire event, said the most challenging task was to coordinate the various elements involved in the performance.

“I believe this is the first such flash mob in the world that had more than one element involved — live singing, percussions and live band.

“Everyone definitely had fun doing it, because the kids continued singing even as they walked off,” he said.

Youths stage 'spontaneous' street musical

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian performance involving more than 100 performers -- whistlers, singers, dancers and percussionists -- took place in the bustling streets of Bukit Bintang recently.

Pedestrians and passersby looked surprised when the musical performance began.

Organised by Twisties, the performance was staged to celebrate youth expression, creativity and spontaneity, and create a tune entitled Irretwistible.

The piece of music was produced by synchronising the thumping of sticks, tins and cans.

It was an unforgettable performance by the Pesawat Band.

"Twisties is all about being fun. We hope this musical performance will play a role in showcasing the astounding talents found in our youths, encouraging creative expressions and most importantly, sharing the fun with others while doing so," said brand manager Lee Lim Meng.

"The idea behind this unique street musical originated from the latest Twisties TV commercial which started airing in major free-to-air and pay TV channels on April 4.

"The 'Let's Rock the Twisties City' commercial essentially encapsulates how young individuals from the city come together in a musical celebration to have a blast while trying to grab a pack of Twisties."

Performers, dressed in plain clothes, were scattered randomly along sidewalks at the four roads branching off from the main junction near the Lot 10 and Sungei Wang shopping complexes.

The musical started with a group of workers whistling to the Irretwistible tune at the bus stop in front of Lot 10.

There were soon joined by more people whistling, singing, dancing to the background of percussion music.

The three-minute musical which included the performance by Pesawat, a popular rock band famous for singles, such as Mirage, Rasional Emosional and Bingit, which have topped local radio and TV charts.

"Being part of this musical performance was very appealing to us.

"The whole idea of this musical is to combine and generate a unique rendition of the Irretwistible and create an unpredictable experience for the public.

"It was just too irresistible for us to miss," said Pesawat's lead vocalist Jipie.

In fact, it turned out to be so irresistible that the public actually joined in the fun.

"Rather than witnessing a musical on a TV screen or stage, we wanted to take this musical genre to the streets for the people to enjoy being a part of it.

"The musical closely imitates the celebratory mood portrayed in the commercial, and showcases the creative expressions and talents of our youths today," said Lee.

The Irretwistible musical ended with the performers whisking out Twisties packs and happily snacking away as if the performance had not at all happened.

One of our projects that 'never' materialized was the Hotlink-Beyonce flashmob, that was set to be the biggest flashmob ever in the country at that point. With some 300 agents recruited, we were set to get more than 10,000 Malaysian to dance with us at the concert, that was later 'postponed' despite our preparations.

Still our pre-party demo will definitely be remembered by the many in the club that night. It also marks the first time there has been a flashmob in a club in the country when more than 60 of our best dancers and choreographers took to the floor to surprise the party-goers who were preparing to get in the mood for the concert.

J Play undoubtedly is best known for our flashmobs. Or in our case, the smart mob (the corporate organized versions of promotional activities using the flash mob approach).

In fact, our signature quirkiness in the unique executions of our flashmobs tailored to our clients is unrivalled by none.

Beginning with an idea that materialized in 2008, it was only eventually realized through the belief of Maxis, the first to take a leap of faith with the idea that was conceptualized by our owner and creative director Joe Lee.

With our existing affiliates in Floor Fever - we embarked on the first project in 2009 under the banner of J Play, and since then we have done many flashmobs.

However our two iconic events are obviously as below, conceptualizing and creating the projects and spearheading a team of professionals.

On 14 August 2009, we proceeded with a little crazy idea peddled to our sponsors in Maxis who took on the challenge to do something out of the box for their iPhone 3GS roadshow. And the result was 120 dancers from our affiliated professionals who took KLCC by storm when they broke into dance.

The KLCC flash mob remains the MOST iconic flashmob in Malaysia and has been attempted by many to carbon copy what we did. However there can be only one.

Our second major flashmob was executed on 1 May 2010 for Kraft Foods for the launch of their Twisties television commercial. It's the first and only outdoor flashmob of this scale in Malaysia, and possibly the only one in the world to incorporate so many performers of different disciplines.

The Irretwistible flashmob was proof that we custom-create flashmobs specifically to our clients.
